Dutchwomen lacrosse downs Rochester, 13-6 in league semifinal

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Ciara Dudeck, Emily McGrail and Cailin Pandolfi scored four goals each to lead Union College to a 13-6 victory over the University of Rochester in a Liberty League Semifinal Game at Union's Frank Bailey Field Friday. The Dutchwomen, 12-3, advance to their second straight league title game while the Yellowjackets finish the season with a record of 9-8.

Union will play either Skidmore College or Vassar College Saturday in the league's championship game at 3:00 p.m. This is the most wins in a season for Union since the 2009 team won 12 games. Maggie Comiskey score a goal and had three assists, and entered the day ranked eighth in NCAA Division III in assist per game. She finished the day with 46 assists for the season. Kim Grinhaus made three saves for the Dutchwomen. McGrail and Dudeck each had six shots on goal and Jessica Farland recorded four caused turnovers. Haley Gould had six draw controls.

Lauren Basil and Jamie Wallisch had two goals each for the Yellowjackets, who got single goals by Elizabeth Botto and Madeline Levy. Maire Prosak made 10 saves in just over 58 minutes of play in the Rochester net. Basil had three shots on net and Wallisch had four draw controls.

Union outshot Rochester, 28-13, and had a 15-14 ground ball advantage. Union was 13 for 14 in clear attempts to Rochester's 12 for 18, and Union was four for six on free position shots while the Yellowjacketrs were zero for three. Rochester had 19 turnovers to Union's 14.

Wallish opned the scoring 5:49 into the game but Union scored six straight for a 6-1 halftime lead. Pandolfi had two free position scores and Dudeck had another during that run. Botto got Rochester to with four at 6-2 53 seconds into the second half. Dudeck tallied twice with 27:41 left and also 18 seconds later, but Basil made it 8-3. McGrail scored with 21:07 left then after a Levy tally, Union added goals by Comiskey and McGrail (her 46th with 16:09 left. Dudeck's 21st with 13:45 left made it 12-4 followed by Wallsich's 39th of the year with 6:35 to play. After Pandolfi's 22nd with 2:52 remaining, Basil's 31st ended the scoring with 1:39 remaining.
