SCHENECTADY, NY – Union women's ice hockey head coach Claudia Asano and assistant coach Ali Boe will return to the ice this summer as coaches for the USA Hockey Player Development Camp. Asano will head to in St. Cloud, MN to coach the girl's U-16 team camp, which consists of the best hockey players in the nation under the age of 16. Boe is taking a similar job, coaching the girl's U-14 team camp in Rochester, NY.

TROY, NY -- Two members of the Union College Athletics Hall of Fame joined another hall of fame on Sunday. Sig Makofski and Jim Tedisco were inducted as charter members into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame. The inaugural class was announced on June 28 at the Terrace Restaurant.

Makofski was one of seven coaches selected, while Tedisco joined 66 other players who excelled in the region. A total of 76 individuals were inducted, including two referees. The Times Union Center in Albany will feature a permanent display with descriptions of each hall of famer in the near future.

BOISE, ID – Union College graduate Matt Cook adn the Idaho Steelheads have agreed on a contract for the 2009-10 season. Cook, a native of Belle Mead, NJ, served as a co-captain for the past two seasons and was a finalist for the 2008-09 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The Steelheads also announced the signing of defenseman Matt Sorteberg from Quinnipiac.

Five sports information professionals were inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame at the 2009 San Antonio Convention on Thursday, June 25, 2009.  The class of 2009 includes Union College's Eric McDowell, Minnesota State Mankato’s Paul Allan, Vanderbilt University’s Tammy Boclair, McNeese State’s Louis Bonnette and South Carolina State's William "Bill" Hamilton.

SCHENECTADY, NY – Bard College and Rochester Institute of Technology will join the Liberty League as full members, beginning in the 2011-12 academic year. The announcement was made today by Jim McLaughlin, Liberty League President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Union College.
 
“We’re delighted to welcome Bard and RIT into the Liberty League,” said McLaughlin. “Both of these outstanding institutions share the ideals of the Liberty League in terms of student-first philosophy and approaching intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the overall educational experience. We look forward to the contributions that Bard and RIT will make to the league, both academically and athletically.”

SCHENECTADY, NY –Senior Union College men’s ice hockey defensemen #Lane Caffaro# and #Brendan Milnamow# will continue their hockey careers at the professional level as the duo signed AHL contracts recently. Caffaro, who was a co-captain for the Dutchmen, signed a one-year deal with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins of the AHL. Milanmow, Union’s leading defensive goal scorer in 2008-09, inked a one-year, two-way deal between the AHL’s Texas Stars and the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.
 
“Both players have worked extremely hard to develop to their potential,” said head coach Nate Leaman. “I’m happy for both of them and wish them much luck in their careers.”
