SCHENECTADY, NY
– Senior forward Adam Presizniuk scored what proved to be the deciding goal at 14:19 of the second period to lift No 13/12 Union (17-7-3, 9-3-1 ECAC Hockey) to a historic 3-2 win over No. 1 Yale (17-3-0, 11-2-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of 2,251 fans at Messa Rink. Union's win was the first in program history over a team ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Union entered the third period with a 3-1 lead after goals from Presizniuk, sophomore forward Wayne Simpson in the second period, and a first period score from freshman forward Daniel Carr. But Yale forward Kenny Agostino cut into the Union lead with a power play goal at 13:39 of the third period.

Sophomore goaltender Keith Kinkaid held off Yale in what was a frantic finish for the Bulldogs. The Dutchmen were outshot 13-4 in the final frame. Kinkaid made 28 saves, including 12 in the third period for his 16th win of the season (16-7-2), moving him in a tie with Trevor Koenig (16 wins in 1995-96) for second on the single season wins list.

From the start, the second meeting between the two teams took on a different complexion than the first meeting on Dec. 5, when Yale won 5-0 and held Union's top-ranked power play off the scoreboard (0-for-6). The Dutchmen outshot Yale 14-8 in the opening frame and outplayed the Bulldogs for much of the period.

Carr scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season at 11:02, as the Dutchmen took an early 1-0 lead on their first man advantage of the game.

Sophomore forward Jeremy Welsh's shot from the point was blocked, but the puck went into the corner to freshman forward Josh Jooris.

Jooris fed the puck Carr, who swept a shot past Rondeau on the near side. The goal was Carr's 10th power play goal of the season, breaking Chris Ford's record for power play goals in a single season set in during the 1993-94 campaign.

Union opened up a two-goal lead at 7:12 of the season period with another power play goal. On the first faceoff of the power play, junior forward Kelly Zajac won the draw back to Wayne Simpson, who fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Rondeau to make it 2-0.

The Bulldogs would score on their own man advantage midway through the period, with senior forward Brock Matheson in the penalty box for hooking. Brian O'Neill found Kenny Agostino all alone in front with a cross-ice pass for a tap in goal at 13:39.

It took Union just 40 seconds to answer back, as Zajac fed Presizniuk, who fired a one-timer past Rondeau at 14:19 for the eventual game-winning goal. Presizniuk's goal was his 9th career game-winner, moving him one shy of Scott Seney's ('06) school record for game-winning goals in the Division I era.

The Dutchmen take on Brown tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
