ECAC Softball Championship at Union this weekend

The Union College softball team will host the 2009 ECAC Softball Championship on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10. The Dutchwomen, who finished the regular season with a 28-6 record, will defend its back-to-back ECAC titles against second-seeded Brockport (28-11-1), third-seeded Alfred (26-19) and fourth-seeded RPI (24-12). Alfred advanced by defeating sixth-seeded Medaille, 6-3, on Wednesday, while RPI moved on by taking down fifth-seeded Elmira, 3-0.
On Saturday, Union faces RPI at 10 a.m. in game one and Brockport and Alfred square off at noon. At 2 p.m., the losers of the first two games will meet followed a 4 p.m. game between the winners of the first two games. The double-elimination tournament continues on Sunday with the winner of game three and the loser of game four battling at 10 a.m. for the chance to play in the championship contest at noon. The winner of that outing must defeat it opponent twice to claim the title. Game seven, if necessary, will take place at 2 p.m.
