The Union College softball team will host the 2009 ECAC Softball Championship on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10. The Dutchwomen, who finished the regular season with a 28-6 record, will defend its back-to-back ECAC titles against second-seeded Brockport (28-11-1), third-seeded Alfred (26-19) and fourth-seeded RPI (24-12). Alfred advanced by defeating sixth-seeded Medaille, 6-3, on Wednesday, while RPI moved on by taking down fifth-seeded Elmira, 3-0.

CAPE COD, MA -- After finishing the regular-season with a 28-6 record, Union College was selected as the number one seed in the 2009 ECAC Division III Upstate Softball Championship. The tournament is a six-team field with first round, semifinal and championship rounds. The semifinal and championship rounds will be played at Union’s Alexander Field.In the first round contest on Wednesday, May 6, No. 4 RPI (23-12) will host No. 5 Elmira College (16-10) at 4:00 p.m., while No. 3 Alfred University (25-9) will host No. 6 Medaille (20-18) at 7:00 p.m. at Hornell High School in Alfred. No. 1 Union College and No. 2 SUNY Brockport (28-11) received first round byes.

SCHENECTADY, NY -- #Megan Kaknis# had two homers and five RBIs, and a walk-off homer in game two, and #Tiffany Ippoliti# pitched a three hit shutout as Union earned a Liberty League softball split with RPI Friday at Alexander Field. The Dutchwomen followed up a 7-4 loss with a 9-0 win in six innings. Union is now 26-6 overall and 3-3 in the league, while the Red Hawks are also 3-3 in the league and 21-9 overall.
