Seven Dutchwomen selected to Liberty League Softball All Star Team

Michelle Rogers was a Liberty League First Team selection in both basketball and softball in her senior year.
SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College softball team, which stands 28-6 and will host this weekend's ECAC Division III Upstate Championships, features seven players on the 2009 Liberty League Softball All Star Team. First team honors went to shortstop Michelle Rogers and outfielder Bridget Graham, while five players were named to the second team, first baseman Megan Kaknis, third baseman Ashley Kovack, pitchers Tiffany Ippoliti and Ginni Sack and esignated player Alexandra King.

Rogers is hitting .421 with a homer and 19 RBIs. She has a hit in 24 of the 34 games this season. She is fifth in the league in batting and tied for third in doubles. Rogers has five games with three hits and 15 multi-hit games. She had three RBIs vs. Mount Saint Mary and three hits vs. that team in the other game. She also had three hits vs. nationally ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater. 

Graham is batting .391 with three home runs and 23 RBIs. She has started in all 34 games in the Union outfield. She enters the ECAC tourney with a hit in 11 of the last 12 games, and is hitting .478 in that span. She had three hits in four games, and three RBIs each vs. Skidmore and St. Lawrence. Graham has 15 multi-hit games and has made just one error all season.

Kaknis is at a .495 clip with eight home runs and 41 RBIs. She is Union's career home run leader with 33. She leads the Liberty League in batting average, RBIs and is second in total bases and third in doubles while being tied for third in home runs. Kaknis has the 11th season of 50 or more hits at Union. She has hit safely in 28 of the 34 games and currently has a nine game hitting streak. She had two HRs and five RBIs in a win over RPI. Kaknis has 16 multi hit games, including four hits vs. Mount Saint Mary. She also had five RBIs in a win over Hamilton and has been named a Liberty League Player of the Week.

Kovack stands at .368 with two her runs and 23 RBIs. She is the starting third baseman for the Dutchwomen. She has been named a Liberty League Player of the Week. She had three hits and five RBIs in a game vs. Skidmore, and three RBIs each vs. Hamilton and New Paltz. Kovack had a nine game hitting streak and batted .542 in that span. She also had three hits vs. Mount Saint Mary.

Ippoliti has a record of 11-2 with a 1.02 ERA and 57 strikeouts. She has allowed just one earned run in her last six appearances, over a span of 33 innings, and is 6-0 in that span. She has six or seven inning shutouts vs. Manchester, New Paltz, and RPI. Ippoliti has allowed less than two earned runs in 10 of her 13 starts. She had a one hitter vs. New Paltz with nine strikeouts, and a two hit win over Skidmore. She has been named a league Pitcher of the Week.

Sack is 12-3 and has a 1.01 ERA with 59 strikeouts. She is now third all time in career wins at Union. She has seven shutouts and has not allowed an earned run in 10 appearances this season. She had a one hitter vs. Mount St. Mary, and has allowed five or less hits in 10 of her games. She struck out nine vs. Chicago and did not allow a run vs. nationally ranked Wisconsin Whitewater. She has been named a league Pitcher of the Week.

King is fourth in the league in batting at .425 and has two home runs with 12 RBIs. She had three hits each vs. New Paltz, Skidmore, Utica and St. Lawrence,a nd four RBis with a homer in another game vs. Utica. King also drove in three with a double and homer vs. St. Lawrence. She has seven multi-hit games this spring.
