Union to host ECAC Softball Championships

CAPE COD, MA -- After finishing the regular-season with a 28-6 record, Union College was selected as the number one seed in the 2009 ECAC Division III Upstate Softball Championship. The tournament is a six-team field with first round, semifinal and championship rounds.  The semifinal and championship rounds will be played at Union’s Alexander Field.

 

In the first round contest on Wednesday, May 6, No. 4 RPI (23-12) will host No. 5 Elmira College (16-10) at 4:00 p.m., while No. 3 Alfred University (25-9) will host No. 6 Medaille (20-18) at 7:00 p.m. at Hornell High School in Alfred. No. 1 Union College and No. 2 SUNY Brockport (28-11) received first round byes.

 

The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, May 9. The winner of the RPI/Elmira match up will face Union at 10:00 a.m. The other semifinal match-up will be the winner of the Alfred/Medaille game vs. Brockport at 12:00 p.m.

The losing teams of the semifinal games will play Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and the semifinal winners will play at 4:00 p.m.  Games continue Sunday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and if necessary, 2:00 p.m. 

Union has won this championship in each of the past two seasons.

First Round – Wednesday, May 6

#5 Elmira at #4 RPI - 4:00 p.m.

#6 Medaille at #3 Alfred - 7:00 p.m. at Hornell High School (Alfred)

 

Semifinals – Saturday, May 9 at Union College, Schenectady, NY

RPI/Elmira winner vs.  #1 Union College - 10:00 a.m.

Alfred/Medaille winner vs. #2 SUNY Brockport - 12:00 p.m.

Loser of first semifinal (10 a.m.) game will play the loser of second semifinal (12 p.m.) game - 2:00 p.m.

Winner of first semifinal (10 a.m.) game will play the winner of second semifinal (12 p.m.) game - 4:00 p.m.

 

Championship – Sunday, May 10 at Union College

Loser Bracket Championship - 10:00 a.m.

Championship Game - 12:00 p.m.

Championship Game (if necessary) - 2:00 p.m.
