Wellness/Fitness Programs

The Department of Athletics offers our students, faculty and staff the opportunity to learn the skills of selected lifetime sports and promote wellness through our class offerings. Wellness and physical education classes are not for-credit and are completely voluntary. These classes are available to all full-time Union students, employees, employee spouse/Domestic Partner and Alumni.

The Union Wellness Program will pay half the cost of classes for benefits eligible employees ($50 maximum).

Registration will run from Wednesday, September 3rd until Friday, September 12th ending at 3:00pm.  Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and closes when the classes reach their maximum enrollment. If a class that you are trying to sign up for reaches capacity, please email polsinem@union.edu to be put on a wait list.
 
Spinning Classes

Spinning®
- Get ready for an exhilarating indoor cycling experience with our Spinning classes! Pedal your way to improved cardiovascular fitness while listening to motivating music and following the lead of our certified instructors. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned cyclist, this class is designed to challenge and invigorate your body and mind.  All Spinning classes will be held on the Alumni Gym Balcony.

Spinning® beginning September 15th (14 classes)

Cycle Sculpt-Cycle Sculpt is an intense combo class that will push your body to the limit. It combines indoor cycling, a low-impact, high-intensity cardio workout with resistance training, to build strength for a full-body workout.  Expect to work with resistance bands and your own body-weight. Class starts with 30 minutes on the bike and finishes with 15 minutes of strength training off the bike and a cool-down stretch to wrap it up. All Cycle Sculpt classes will be held on the Alumni Gym Balcony.

Cycle Sculpt beginning September 15th (23 classes)
Monday/Wednesday/Friday (12:00 PM - 12:50 PM) with Marta Dauphinee
Fee: $88

Cycle Strength-Work your entire body inside and out during this combination workout. Class begins with fast sprints and steep climbs on the bike to maximize effort and calories burned, and then transitions off bike to strength and muscle conditioning with weights and body weight exercises. Your body will continue the burn well after class ends.  All Cycle Strength classes will be held on the Alumni Gym Balcony.

Group Fitness Classes

Barre Fusion-An all-levels fitness class that combines elements from barre, Pilates and yoga. This is a whole-body workout with both mat and standing work.  Our barre moves will be practiced "off the barre" for an additional challenge. Build strength, flexibility and body awareness with a low-impact, medium-intensity workout that will leave you feeling energized and strong.  Mats and props will be provided.  Participants should bring a water bottle.  All Barre Fusion classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Sculpt with Sof-Sculpt with Sof is a fun, full body, high intensity workout class! We will incorporate weights, mobility, resistance training, and cardio to implement muscle growth and strength. All levels are welcome.  This class is great if you're looking to tone up and also get some personalized training in a group setting. See you in class!  All Sculpt with Sof classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Total Body Revitalize-This class is all about revitalizing your body from head to toe through a comprehensive and well-rounded workout. With a combination of strength training, cardiovascular exercises and flexibility work, Total Body Revitalize will help you achieve overall fitness and well-being. Our experienced trainer will guide you through a variety of exercises that target different muscle groups, improve your endurance and leave you feeling invigorated and ready to take on whatever challenge life throws your way. Join us to experience the transformational power of Total Body Revitalize!  All Total Body Revitalize classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Zumba-®Get ready to move and groove! Join our Zumba® class and party your way to fitness. With Latin and international rhythms, paired with easy to follow moves. No dance experience needed. Zumba® is for everyBODY, regardless of age, fitness level, or dance background. It burns calories, boosts your mood and improves your fitness in a fun, supportive atmosphere.  All Zumba-® classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Mat Pilates-Mat Pilates is a low-impact all-levels fitness class that focuses on building strength, flexibility and postural alignment. Each class will work to balance and strengthen all muscle groups, with an emphasis on core strength and spinal mobility. Challenging but accessible, Mat Pilates is a great way to lengthen and sculpt your body and will leave you feeling strong and mobile. All Mat Pilates classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Group Fitness-Mat Pilates-beginning September 19th (7 classes)

Friday (12:00 PM - 12:45 PM) with Eliza Patterson

Yoga Class 

Yoga Flow-Yoga Flow is designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance. Beginners and experienced yoga practitioners are welcome! Participants will be guided through a series of yoga postures with a strong focus on alignment and the connection between body, mind and breath. The class begins with a brief guided meditation into breath awareness, includes warm ups, a main flow practice and ends with a cool down and relaxation to leave you feeling refreshed!  All Yoga Flow classes will be held in the Lower Exercise Room in the Alumni Gym.

Personal Training 

The Athletic Department is pleased to offer personal training services to the Campus Community with Darcie Adams & Sofia Gray.

DARCIE ADAMS
Darcie Adams has been in the fitness industry professionally since 1998.  She has been a Certified Personal Trainer since 2003.  For 15 years, she held the position as a Health & Fitness Director of a non-for-profit community center. In this position, she has helped other personal trainers and group fitness instructors develop their skills.  She has performed one-on-one fitness trainings with a broad range of clientele. She is a presenter/pro-trainer for FiTour (2009-present) and was an AFAA Examiner (2002-2016).  Darcie attends fitness conferences yearly and has many continuing educational course credits from SCW, AAAI/ISMA and AFAA. Her areas of proficiency are group fitness classes from the young to older active adults, fitness assessments, one-on-one and group training sessions.  She enjoys all aspects of the health and wellness field. She motivates you to want to do your best and just when you think you're there, you find you have a little bit more to give!

- One-on-one personal training sessions
- Small group personal training sessions
- Instruction on how to use the fitness equipment.

$40.00 - 1-hour session
$60.00 - 1-hour small group (2-3 people) session
$300.00 - 10 1-hour sessions (if prepaid; no refunds; does not apply to small group sessions)

I'm Sofia, a NASM-certified personal trainer who loves helping my clients achieve their goals and build strength. While coaching is newer to me, my passion for fitness began at the beginning of COVID and I have never looked back since! I offer personal training sessions and weekly group strength classes tailored to you and your goals. I believe in a personalized approach incorporating various training forms to best support you. I can't wait to coach you!
