MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
DONATIONS
Gridiron Members,
Thanks to your support and the work of many volunteers the Gridiron Club had an outstanding 2010 and is hard at work towards a fruitful 2011.
Last year we accomplished some valuable new projects:
- Established the Gridiron Internship program for students.
- Launched our annual Gridiron Career Fair connecting students with football alumni to discuss jobs and life after Union.
- Connected over 100 Gridiron members via our LinkedIn Group Network.
- Gridiron Alumni offered several jobs and internship opportunities to graduating seniors and current students.
- Raised over $100,000 to support football initiatives.
In 2011 we are continuing these efforts and targeting even more ambitious goals.
Our fundraising goal is $150,000.
Your financial support is critical to keeping the Dutchmen program competitive on a national level. Here are some of the initiatives you support:
- An expanded 10 game schedule and an earlier start to summer camp.
- Recruiting on a national level in Florida, Texas, California and other regions outside the Northeast.
- State of the Art video equipment and software giving coaches an edge in analyzing game film and opponent tendencies.
- A dedicated strength & conditioning coach focused on football players' specific needs.
- A larger staff of assistant coaches to provide attention at position level.
- Community events such as tailgates, banquets, and career networking.
How can you continue to support?
1) Donate to the Club.
2) Invite others to join the Gridiron Club & help grow our membership.
3) Get Involved: Connect via LinkedIn (
Gridiron Club Group), Offer internships, jobs and career advice to students and members,
On and off the field help us continue to make it "Union's Game"

Sustainable donations are a key to assisting the UC Football Coaching staff achieve their goals year after year. We will continue to enhance this budget to include funds for recruiting travel, professional development, etc.
Alumni Job Assistance/Placement
We are proud to announce the launch of the Gridiron Internship Program and congratulate the seven student-athletes selected as the inaugural intern team. This program was designed to create opportunities for our student-athletes to gain relevant job experience and exposure to our network of alumni. Inspiration of the program came from former players Scott Newton'95 and Bill Mehleisen'97. Under Scott and Bill's guidance the student interns will be managing various initiatives to drive the growth of the club and increase the value of your membership.
Community Outreach
Mike Newell leads the charge on this with the current football players. The FDGC is in full support of Mike's efforts for players' visits to local schools, I have been in discussion with Mike as to how the FDGC can greater support his vision on this. Mike also hosts a Leadership forum: The FDGC has some key alums that participate in this, but we would like to see more.
The first set of initiatives includes:
Creating an effective member database and contact system
Improving member network abilities by setting up and driving members to our new Gridiron Club LinkedIn and Facebook groups.
Hosting a career day where a panel of football alumni will discuss job preparation and life after Union.
