Ramapo posts 3-2 walk off win over Union

AUBURN, NY -- Brandon Martinez singled home Rob DeAngelis with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Ramapo University a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Union College in a first round game of the 2016 NCAA Div. III New York Baseball Regionals at PInckney Field at Falcon Park Wednesday.

The Roadrunners improved to 34-10-1 and will play either Frostburg State or Susquehanna Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. The Dutchmen had their nine game winning streak snapped and are 26-13. Union faces Castleton Thursday at 11:00 a.m., as Castleton lost to host Cortland, 14-4 in the first game of the tournament Wednesday.

Ramapo, which is one of three teams in this regional to reach the College World Series in 2015, trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the ninth. Martinez led off the inning with a double and later went to third. After reliever Jamie Faber got the next two outs, Bobby Shannon faced a full count. He hit a deep fly to right center for a stand up double to tie the game at 2-2.

Union starter Jake Fishman struck out 12 and with a no decision, remained undefeated at 7-0. He allowed a solo homer by Connor Walsh in the seventh. That was only the third earned run he allowed all season. He retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced and posted his fourth 10+ strikeout game and second straight while allowing five hits and one walk. Faber gave up four hits and two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings to suffer his first loss in three decisions.

Jerry D'Andrea, the fourth of four pitchers for the Roadrunners, got the win as he did not now allow a hit and struck out one while walking one in 2 1/3 innings.

Union took a 2-0 lead off starter C.J. Growney in the third. With two outs, Harrison Glatt had a single to center and went to second on a wild pitch. Kent Curran singled to right to bring home Glatt for the first run of the game. Eric Egan then singled to left to score Curran for the 2-0 lead.

Egan had three of Union's nine hits, and Fishman had two hits. DeAngelis, Martinez, Walsh and Ryan Rinsky had two hits each for the Roadrunners. This was Union's first loss since April 30. Union last met Castleton last season and won on the road on April 28, 4-1.
