TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse program will host the Fourth Annual "Faceoff For A Cause" along with seven other schools on Sunday, October 9 from 10am to 4:30pm at the East Campus Athletic Village (ECAV). The event includes scrimmages between the teams, a special address from a Wounded Warrior and a fundraiser as the squads aim to raise money for the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP).
Joining the Engineers are teams from Bentley University, Colgate University, New York Institute of Technology, Siena College, Skidmore College, Union College and Western New England University. Games will be played in East Campus Stadium as well as on Renwyck Field.
A total of $50,713 has been raised for Wounded Warrior Project over the first three years of the event. Last year's event raised $21,173.67, far exceeding the $20,000 goal. This year, the participants are hoping to once again exceed their goal of $25,000 with the help and generous support of the local lacrosse community.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and FREE for children ages 12 and under and all tickets can be purchased on the day of the game at ECAV. All proceeds from the day will be donated to WWP and will support a full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families. Over 48,000 servicemen and women have been injured in the recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment.
WWP's 20 programs and services are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.
Each of the participating eight teams play two games beginning at 10am. Two games take place at 10am, 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3pm. A Wounded Warrior Project alum will address all those in attendance through a special presentation at 1pm.
