Union encounters either Ohio State (4-7-1) of the Big Ten or Western Michigan (3-8-1) of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) on Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
Union is making its second appearance at the Shillelagh Tournament, having played at the inaugural event in 2009 when it was held at the Sears Centre in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates. That was also the last time Union faced Notre Dame. The Irish were ranked No. 1 and posted a 3-1 win.
It's been nearly two years since Union last skated in a holiday tournament, that being the Catamount Cup contested in December 2012. The Dutchmen are 15-26-5 all-time in regular season tournaments and have claimed three titles: the 2009 RPI Invitational, the 2008 Governor's Cup and the 1993 Concordia Invitational.
