PRINCETON, NJ-   A pair of power-play goals and a 31-14 advantage in shots led the Princeton women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Union Friday night at Baker Rink.
 

The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead 6:06 into the first when Sasha Sherry picked up a rebound off her own shot in the middle of a crowded pack and scored on goaltender Alana Marcinko.

Princeton built a 2-0 lead on another rebound, as Denna Laing found a shot by Butler on the doorstep and knocked it into the left side of the net. Just over two minutes later, Corey Stearns fired a shot from the blue line that flew past a screened Marcinko for the 3-0 lead. The Dutchwomen put in goaltender Kate Gallagher at that point, and she made 19 saves the rest of the way to keep Union in the contest.

Union did get to within two goals on a power-play blast from Marissa Gentile 8:02 into the third period, following an interference penalty to Danielle DiCesare. The Tigers ended up taking the final three penalties of the game to keep a resilient Union in the hunt, but Tiger goaltender Rachel Weber and the Princeton defense made sure the lead stood at 3-1.

Marcinko had nine saves in goal.  Weber made 13 saves for the Tigers.

 

Union was 1-for-6 on the power play while Princeton was 2-for-6.

 

The Dutchwomen return to the ice tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm against Quinnipiac.
