SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's ice hockey team returned to the ice in uniform for the 2011-12 Garnet and White game. Team White claimed a 2-1 victory in a close hard-fought scrimmage.
Volunteer assistant Joel Beal '05 coached Team Garnet, while assistant coach
Jason Tapp was behind the bench for Team White.
The teams battled for two 10-minute periods, followed by a 15-minute third period, and concluding with a five-man shootout.

Brian Yanovitch helped Team Garnet take an early lead, beating White goaltender
Troy Grosenick over the shoulder with a backhand.
White scored the tying and winning goals in a span of 1:49 in the third period. Freshman forward
Trevor Mingoia tied the contest with 7:17 to play in the third period on a tip in off a cross-ice pass from freshman forward

Tyson Fulton scored the game-winner with 5:28 to play, stuffing in a rebound off an initial shot by freshman forward

Union will open the 2011-12 season next Saturday at Army in a 7:05 p.m. contest.
Notes: Union men's hockey will host the ICE BREAKER EVENT for Garnet Blades members and season ticket holders on Monday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Nott Memorial … The team met with the fans in attendance in the lobby after the game.
