SCHENECTADY, NY -- Five different players scored and sophomore goaltender Laura Bellamy posted the shutout as Harvard University defeated Union College, 5-0 in an ECAC Hockey Game at Messa Rink Friday afternoon. The Crimson improved to 6-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the league, while the Dutchwomen fell to 1-17-3 ovearll and 0-7-2 in ECAC Hockey.
Lyndsey Fry had 10 shots for the Crimson, which outshot the Dutchwomen, 42-10. Union goaltender
Alana Marcinko made 26 saves in just under 45 minutes, while
Kate Gallagher also saw action between the pipes and made 11 stops in just over 15 minutes for the Dutchwomen.
The teams produced a scoreless first period, and the Crimson had a 9-4 shot advantage during the first 20 minutes. Union had two power play opportunities during the period. Josephine Pucci went high for the first goal of the day, with a feed from Kalley Armstrong 2:09 into the second. The Crimson made it 2-0 at 3:13 when Lyndsey Fry fed Jillian Dempsey in close for a one-timer. At 5:01, Kaitlin Spurling capped the second period scoring, with a 3-0 lead. Harvard had a 16-4 shot advantage in the period.
Katharine Chute scored a power play goal at 4:58 of the third and Fry provided the 5-0 final with an assist from Pucci at 9:26.
Union hosts Dartmouth Saturday at 3 p.m. at Messa Rink.
