Trinity wins Sig Makofski Tournament with win over Union

SCHENECTADY, NY --
Sophomore forward/guard Mick DiStasio scored a game high 17 points and guard Ian Fels added 13 with five assists to lead Trinity College to a 77-44 win over host Union College in the championship game of the 2011 Sig Makofski Tournament at the Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night. The Bantams improved to 9-4 while Union's five-game win streak was snapped as they stand 8-2.

Fels was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. In a first round win over Dartmouth, he scored a game high 20 points with six rebounds. DiStasio was selected to the All-Tournament Team along with Justin Gallo and Joe Mason of Union, Elgin Brown of Ramapo and Justin Pulver of UMass Dartmouth.

Eric Dean also scored 13 points, Brian Ford had 11 and Luke MacDougall scored 10 for Trinity, which shot 53% for the game and had a 36-28 rebounding advantage.

Union was led by Gallo, who had nine points, while Mason had seven with two steals. Keven Donohue led the Dutchmen with five rebounds, and Union shot 33% for the contest.

Trinity led 39-24 at the half, and in the second half, and led from start to finish. The Dutchmen trailed by 17 at 50-33 with 12:06 left, then the Bantams went on a 26-6 run for a 76-39 lead with 3:51 remaining en route to the win. DiStasio scored seven points in that run.

Union is at Divsion I Columbia Saturday at 4 p.m.
