Schreiber, Walters, Wakita and Sillery ink pro deals

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College men's ice hockey seniors Mike Schreiber, Jason Walters, Mike Wakita and Rich Sillery have all signed professional contracts for the 2010-11 hockey season. Schreiber will be heading to Hannover of the 2nd Bundesliga League in Germany, while Walters signed with Vasteras of the HockeyAllsvenskan League in Sweden. Wakita and Sillery remain in the United States, inking with Wakita going to Missouri in the Central Hockey League and Sillery signing with 1,000 Islands of the Federal Hockey League.
 
Schreiber, who served as an assistant captain last season, was an All-ECAC Hockey First Team selection after leading the conference defensemen for points with 29 – a school record for points by a defenseman. Schreiber, along with Walters, finished atop the conference with a plus-25 rating. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native scored eight goals and added 21 assists in 2009-10. For his career, he produced 78 points with 17 goals and 61 assists.
 
Walters became Union's all-time leading scorer when he assisted on junior Adam Presizniuk's game-winning goal in the ECAC Hockey semifinals, sending the Dutchmen to their first ever conference title game. For his career, Walters registered 115 points with 42 goals and 73 assists. In 2009-10, the Renfrew, Ontario native was the team's second-leading scorer with 16 goals and 24 assists.
 
Wakita, the captain of last year's squad, helped earn Union the SKOR Trophy, which is the ECAC Hockey sportsmanship award. The Campbell River, British Columbia native appeared in 108 career games, registering three goals and eight assists. During his senior season, Wakita played in 37 games, producing three points and a plus-4 rating.

Sillery played nine games for Union, making his first career start against Quinnipiac at the Governor's Cup on October 21, 2006. That same season, he made 22 stops in his first career game and was named to the ECAC Hockey Weekly Honor Roll. Sillery earned his first career victory with 23 saves against Army on November 24, 2006.

Each player signed a one-year deal with their respective teams.
