Five Dutchmen score in double figures in 78-58 win over Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior tri-captain Joey Lokitis scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and four other players scored in double figures to lead Union to a 78-58 Liberty League men's basketball win over Clarkson Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchmen, winners of four of the last six, improved to 3-2 in the Liberty League and 7-8 overall, while the Golden Knights fell to 3-2 in the league and 9-6 overall.
This was Lokitis' second 20 point effort in two nights, and his second double-double of the winter. Drew Goldstein and Joey Mason each scored 14 points and for Mason, the freshman guard, it was a career high. Rusmir Dzanko added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Dutchmen while Matt Covucci added 10 points.
Senior forward Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) led the Golden Knights with a double-double of his own, 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior swingman Keith Murray (Queens, NY) scored 11 points and senior guard Brandon Linton (Queens, NY) added a game high five assists with his seven points.
Union shot 46% for the night and only had a season low 10 turnovers. The Dutchmen also dominated th boards with a 48-33 advantage. The 48 rebound total was a season best. Clarkson shot 37% from the floor.
The Dutchmen jumped out to a 29-9 lead 10:05 into the game. Lokitis had three three pointers during that run. Union took a 39-25 lead into the half. Clarkson got to within 14, 2:51 into the second half, as a jumper by Murray made it 43-29 Union. But the Dutchmen went on a 24-8 run in the next 9:04 for a game best 30 point lead, 67-37.
Union is on the road for the next five games, starting Friday, January 29 at RPI at 8 p.m. Clarkson hosts Hamilton next Friday at 8 p.m.
