Mike Schreiber and
Mario Valery-Trabucco have been named candidates for the Hobey Baker Trophy, which is award annually to the top college men's hockey player in the country. Fans can vote for both Schreiber and Trabucco online through March 7 at
HobeyBaker.com.
Phase two of fan balloting will then begin on March 19 from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists. The fans' vote accounts for a full 1% of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient.
Award criteria include candidates mimicking the superlative character traits put forth by the award's namesake, Hobey Baker, a World War I flying star better known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day. Award candidates must exhibit strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
Schreiber is proving to be one of the best defenseman in the country with a plus-19 rating (leads ECAC Hockey), five goals, 13 assists and 18 points. He has registered a plus rating in 13 games and has only been in the minus once. This season, Schreiber has posted five multi-point games and a four-game point streak.
In the first 20 games Trabucco has played, he is averaging 1.30 points per game. If he stays on place he will finish the regular season (33 games for Trabucco) with 43 points. Trabucco leads Union in points (26), assists (14) and shots (83). He is tied for first in goals (11) and second for plus-minus (+15). This season, Trabucco has registered a team-high nine multi-point games, including three games with three points.
