POTSDAM, NY – Competition concluded at the 2009 NYSCTC Outdoor Championship hosted by St. Lawrence on Saturday. Senior
Jun-Ho Ham claimed his second first-place finish in the two day event in the shot put, while senior
Julie LaSpina placed second in the shot put.
Ham won both the shot put (15.20 meters) and the discus (45.42 meters) with two ECAC qualifying throws. He was also voted Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet. The Dutchmen had a strong showing in the shot put with four of the top eight representing the garnet and white.
Aaron Ray finished fifth (13.43 meters),
Danton Brewington placed seventh (13.34 meters), and Mike Jacobson was eighth (13.28meters).
In the pole vault,
Tom Albano took sixth (3.96 meters), while
Kyle Bucklin placed third in the in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark (6.73 meters).
Alex Coppola just missed an ECAC mark as he finished fifth in the triple jump, but Barber qualified with a seventh place time (13.24 meters) in the 200.
LaSpina not only faired well in the shot put with an ECAC throw (12.01 meters), she also helped Union finish sixth in the 4x100 (52.15), and the 4x400 (4:16.67). In both races, she was joined by
Rachel Fitz,
Courtney Steiner and
Judy Horan.
Horan had a personal best in the 100 meter (12.96) where she finished eighth. Fitz placed 13th in the 100 meter hurdles.
Kaitlin Camilleri had a personal best in the hammer throw (43.36m), finishing eighth.
