SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Union senior
Julie LaSpina wrapped up an outstanding athletic career for Union Friday at the 2009 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She had played volleyball as well as competing in track & field during her time on campus. LaSpina finished 16th in the shot at 11.30 meters.
Jung Ho Ham won both the discus and shot events at the ECACs Friday. The senior, who had previously won Liberty League and NYSCTC discus and shot put events, finished first in the ECACs in the shot with a throw of 15.98 meters. This mark smashes his previous best of 15.20 and thus puts him into NCAA provisional qualification for the shot (he needed a mark of 15.45). His is currently ranked 12th in the nation. His discus throw of 47.89 is also a new personal best and improves his previous NCAA provisional mark of 45.42.
Freshman
Kyle Bucklin had a jump of 6.30 meters in the long jump to finish 19th in that event. He ends his first season as the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor long jump events. Bucklin joined teammates
Patricio Guaiquil,
Ryan Owen and
Phil Lambert for Union's 12th place time of 43.51 in the 4x100 relay. Lambert, Bucklin, Guaiquil and
Davis Barber timed at 3:21.10 to palce the Dutchmen 14th in the 4x400 relay. This time is almost a 3 second season best which break the old school record set in 1974.
Davis and Lambert also each competed in the men's 200. Lambert's time of 22.70 finished 18th and Barber crossed at 23.04 for a 25th place finish.
