SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After playing two-games at Syracuse last weekend, the Union College Dutchwomen return home this weekend for their only home-and-home series against rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The first game, at Schenectady, is on Saturday at 2 p.m. Fans who can't make it to Messa Rink can watch the game live through video (click here). The second contest, in Troy, is on the next day at noon. Live stats are available for both games. (at Union, at RPI).
Last weekend, it was déjà vu all over again for freshman forward Rhianna Kurio, who once again scored the first goal of the game last Sunday at Syracuse. Kurio scored on the power play just over six minutes into the first period. Kurio's first game-opening goal was scored 16 seconds into the contest against at Princeton on Oct. 31.
Three players posted their first assists on the season against Syracuse last weekend. Sophomore forward Émilie Arseneault posted her first assist on the season Saturday, assisting freshman forward Emma Rambo's second career goal. On Sunday, senior defenseman Jackie Koetteritz and sophomore forward Lauren Cromartie posted their first assists on the season assisting freshman forward Kurio's second career goal. Ten Dutchwomen are now in the assists board this season.
In addition, junior forward Marissa Gentile scored her first goal of the season --seventh career-- on Sunday against Syracuse. Her goal potentially tied the game at two in the second period. The co-captain has three assists this season.
Scouting the Engineers
A finalist in last season's ECACH Championship game, RPI is also re-entering conference play after the Engineers played at Robert Morris on Nov. 27 and 28, splitting the two game series.
Two of the Engineers seniors are leading the team in scoring. Forward WhitneyNaslund leads the team in goals with eight and defenseman LauraGersten leads the team in assists with 11. Naslund and Gersten currently have 13 and 11 points, respectively. Gersten is currently 13th in the nation in points per game with a .065 mark.
Four players have contributed 10 points this season, including freshman forward TaylorHorton.
Returning to the net is junior SonjavanderBliek, who has played 16 games this season and has an overall 2.42 goal-against average and a .902 save percentage.
In the Coaches' Preseason Poll, RPI was picked to finish sixth in the ECACH.
