Early second half goal lifts #20 Hobart over men's soccer

SCHENECTADY, NY –
A goal Hobart goal at 60:09 lifted the 20th-ranked Statesmen (11-3-2) to a 2-1 victory against the Union College men’s soccer team (9-5-2) on Sunday afternoon at College Park. The victory gives Hobart some breathing room heading into the season finally next weekend with a 4-2 Liberty League record. The Dutchmen, who are 3-3 in the league, will have to defeat Skidmore on Saturday, Oct 31 and have Vassar lose or tie at RPI to earn a playoff spot.

The game-winning goal was scored by freshman defender Taylor Jones on a play setup by sophomore forward Tommy Hayes.

A corner kick produced the first goal of the game when senior midfielder Kyle Riter sent a ball through the box, finding the head of junior midfielder Dan Dubrow. The goal, which came at 27:59, was Dubrow’s second of the season.

The Statesman pulled the score even at 34:24 when senior midfielder fired a shot from 25 yards out. A Dutchmen defender attempted to head the ball out of danger, but directed it into the back of the net.

Union concludes the regular season when Skidmore comes to College Park at 1 p.m.
