SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College sophomore Jen Merinder (Andover, Mass.) has been named the Liberty League Women's Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week for competition ending Sunday, May 4, 2008. The award marks the fourth this season for the hurdler who broke two school records at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships last weekend.
Merinder broke school records in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles on the final day of competition at the NYSCTC championships. She was second in the 400 meter hurdles, breaking her own school record with a time of 1:04.24, an ECAC-qualifying mark. Her time just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying time by 0.1 second. She placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a school-record time of 15.64, qualifying for the ECAC championships in the event.
Merinder also ran in the 4x400 meter relay that finished ninth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:10.40, a season-best mark.
Up next for Merinder and the Dutchwomen is the ECAC Championships, hosted by Springfield College, on May 15 and 16.
