SCHENECTADY, NY -- The 2011 Union College men's lacrosse team will be led by attack Brendan Kinnane, defender Derek Witheford, goaltender Sean Aaron, and midfielder Jon Stidd, Hall of Fame head coach Paul Wehrum announced Monday. Kinnane and Witherford are entering their senior seasons, while Aaron and Stidd are both entering their junior year.
Kinnane, a Liberty League First Team selection and a three-time Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, ranked third in the conference with 2.86 points-per-game and 1.43 assists-per-game in the regular season. He has played in 44 career games, producing 94 points behind 43 goals and 51 assists and collected 99 groundballs.
Witheford, one of the top defensive players in the league, was named Second Team All-Liberty League in 2010 and helped produce one of the top defensive units in the conference. He grabbed 44 groundballs and caused 19 turnovers. In his three seasons, he has picked up 123 groundballs and forced 45 turnovers.
Aaron was named to the 2010 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America Third Team after leading all of NCAA Division III in goals against average and save percentage. In 24 career games at Union, Aaron has a record of 11-3-0 with a .695 save percentage. In 2010, the Great Falls, VA native finished the season with a save percentage of .702 and a goals against average of 5.69.
Stidd has played in 25 career games, collecting 25 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers. In 2010, he played in every game, finishing second on the team with 11 caused turnovers.
