The Moran Family Initiative
to Endow the Head Coaching Positions for Women’s Field Hockey and Lacrosse
Female student athletes have been making history at Union College for four decades, ever since the first women set foot on this historic campus in 1970. Women’s teams have grown to compete on a national level – rising in stature from club-only teams, part-time coaches, second hand uniforms and limited practice times.
We are particularly thankful to our coaches for providing leadership and inspiring our student-athletes to achieve success on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
In recognition of the importance of coaching leadership, we have received significant contributions from the Moran Family. Thanks to the Morans’ generosity, we have created two endowed funds that will support women’s head coaching positions in field hockey and lacrosse. Both funds are accepting contributions from other donors
Our goal is to raise $1.8 million ($900,000 for each endowed fund), by June 30, 2014. Gifts can be paid in full or pledged over a period up to five years. Gifts may be split between both funds or designated to one specific fund and gifts of all sizes are very much appreciated. If less than $900,000 is raised, the endowed funds will become the Women’s Lacrosse Discretionary Fund and the Women’s Field Hockey Discretionary Fund.
Fund-raising co-captains will be recruited from each class year, along with current and former parents, and the Moran Family to reach out to teammates, parents and friends. Those who have already agreed to serve as co-captains include Roberta McLain ’84, Emily French ’07, Keri Messa ’08, Lizzy Moran ’10, Buthaina Shukri ’81 and Yvonne Turchetti ’02.
