Summer Sports Academies at Union College
For more information, click on the academy of your interest.
You must include the registration form, medical/health form and waiver form along with your academy deposit. One of each form per camp and per attendee, please.

BOYS BASKETBALL 2010

    Enrollment
    Each weekly session will have a maximum of 100 participants in order to maintain an effective player-coach ratio. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Application deadline one week prior to camp.
    Location
    Sessions will be held in the Viniar Athletic Center and Memorial Field House on the Union College campus. The facilities include 12 teaching stations and six full courts for games. Everyone should meet at the Field House.

    Session I - July 6-9 - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (grades 3-9) - Full Day - Boys
    Session II - July 6-9 - 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (grades 3-9) - Half Day - Boys
    Session III - July 12-16 - 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (grades 7-12) - Offensive Skills Camp

    Session I - (full day includes lunch) - $210.00 (deposit is $100)

    All attendees will receive an academy "T" shirt and a basketball.

    DIVING CAMP 2010

    Description
    Union College Diving Academy offers two week-long training programs that will improve a diver's fundamental and advanced techniques. Divers of novice ability and higher are eligible for the academy. Age requirements are 8-18. The coaching staff will provide divers with basic board and hurdle work, on both 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Refinement of voluntary and optional dives will also be provided, both on the boards, and through dry land training, and trampoline work. A video system will also be set up to provide divers with video analysis. Goal setting, visualization, and relaxation will also be taught to the divers.
    Location

    The academy will be held at Union College in the Alumni Gym pool.
    Time
    Session I: August 2 - 6     3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    Session II: August 9 - 13  3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

    Cost
    The cost are $160, or $300 for both weeks. A non-refundable $50.00 deposit by check (made payable to Union College) is required along with the application and signed waiver form. Balance is due on or before the first day of the academy. Please include immunization. Please make checks payable to Union College.

    Divers must provide a proper bathing suit, and towels.

    FIELD HOCKEY 2010

    For field players and goalies grades 7-12 and beginners are welcome.
    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted field turf facility. The field is home to the Union College field hockey team as well as to the men's and women's lacrosse teams.
    Session and Cost
    July 26-29  9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Cost
    $250. Lunch is provided.
    Deposit: $25.00
    Equipment
    Every field player must supply her own:

    • mouth guards
    • shin guards
    • sneakers or cleats

    SCHOLASTIC VARSITY CONTACT FOOTBALL ACADEMY 2010

    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted field turf.  A lecture center will also be available for training films and lectures.
    Theme
    The theme of this camp includes skills by position and teamwork sessions, skill and teamwork sessions instructed by Union football coaches and selected local high school coaches. This is a full contact camp.
    Eligibility
    This is a full contact academy open to both perimeter and interior players, grades entering 9-12. All contact will be closely monitored.
    Enrollment
    The academy will have a maximum of 160 participants to maintain an effective player-coach ratio. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
    Dates
    August 2-6
    6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    Please arrive promptly at 6:45 p.m. for warm-up
    Friday we will begin at 5 p.m. (Games on Friday)
    Equipment
    Every player must supply their own helmets (NOCASE), mouth piece, shoulder pads, pants, jersey and cleats, sneakers, or Turf shoes. Please bring your own refreshments for water breaks. We will be in full pads on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week.
    Cost
    $150.00
    Early registration discount of $25 (must sign up by July 1)
    A $50.00 deposit is required with the application. The balance of $100.00 is due on or before the first day of the academy.

    MODIFIED FOOTBALL ACADEMY 2010 - Geared for players entering Grades 6-7-8

    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted field turf.  A lecture center will also be available for training films and lectures.

    YOUTH FOOTBALL ACADEMY 2010 & POP WARNER FOOTBALL CAMP

    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted Field Turf.  
    Eligibility
    Camp is geared specially for younger players for grades entering 3-4-5. Instruction by the Union College coaching staff focusing on learning the basics of football - offensive and defensive positions, blocking and tackling fundamentals.

    Youth Football Grades 3-5
    July 19 - 23   
    6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    Registration will be held on Monday at 6:15 p.m. on the field by the bleacher area.
    Equipment
    Every attendee must supply their own helmets, mouth piece, shoulder pads, pants, jersey and sneakers or turf shoes. Please bring your own thermos for water breaks. Equipment can usually be borrowed from your local youth organization.

    Youth Academy 
    $125.00

    Description
    Daily power skating work, edge work & slide mechanics. Small area games teaching use of body in tight spaces. Station work, off-ice activities including video sessions. 3 hours supervised on ice daily. Camp jersey provided.

    Location
    The academies will be held at Union College on Library and Alexander Fields (grass fields) as well as on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted field turf field.
    Day Academy
    July 19 through July 23
    Boys & girls ages 6 to 18 held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Cost is $250 per attendee. (Team discounts available)
    Lunch and video will be provided for all attendees at the Union College dining facilities.

    Evening Academy
    August 2 through August 6
    Boys & girls ages 7 to 17 held 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at College Park

    *Overnight academy check-in will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on July 5th and 12th.
    *Day academy check-in will be from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. on July 6th and 13th.
    *Each academy will conclude with a small competition on Friday from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College in Alumni Gym, an 8-lane, 25-yard pool
    Eligibility
    Union College Swim Academy offers an avenue for competitive swimmers to refine stroke technique and learn new training methods. Participation is for novice to advanced swimming levels, age requirements are 8-18. We will provide complete stroke analysis with above and below water video, race preparation and strategy, education and discussion on proper diet, positive mental attitude and flexibility and dryland training instructions.
    Our goal is to help each "Dutch" camper be a better swimmer.
    This is not a learn to swim academy.
    Time
    Day Academy will run from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
    Overnight attendees must be 9 years of age or older.
    Equipment
    Every swimmer must provide their own suits, goggles, caps, towels, fins if you have some, and mini DVDs to record strokes and turns.
    Meals
    Overnight Academy--The College Center will provide three meals per day in buffet style for seconds.
    Day Academy--The College Center will provide lunch only.
    Housing
    Attendees will be housed in the College dormitories. Attendees must supply their own bed linen, blanket, pillow and towels. Overnight campers will have to be out of the rooms by 11:00 a.m. The camp will conclude in the pool at 3:30.
    Cost
    $490.00 (includes overnight accommodations)
    $365.00 (not including overnight accommodations/day academy only. Lunch will be provided.)
    Discount of $25.00 for a team of five or more.
    A non-refundable $100.00 deposit by check (payable to Union College) is required along with the application and signed waiver form. Balance is due on or before the first day of camp. Please include immunizations records with deposit.
    Please note: No attendee will be permitted to begin until all forms are properly completed and on file.
    Refund Policy
    If an attendee withdraws prior to the starting date (registration) of Academy, all payments except the application fee will be refunded. Once the academy begins, there will be no refunds for early departures or late arrivals. Refunds based on medical reasons will be provided as conditions warrant.

    TENNIS 2010 SUMMER ACADEMY

    Enrollment

    Program
    Players will be grouped according to ability. Instruction will be provided on skills and strategies appropriate for each student's level of play.
    Rain dates: Friday of each week.
    Equipment
    Tennis sneakers, racquets, sunscreen, water bottle, and layered clothing. Running shoes optional.

    Passing, digging, setting, hitting, blocking, team defense and team offense are some of the skills that will be emphasized.

    Boys Lacrosse Academy 2010
    For boys in grades 6-12 all positions and ability levels welcome. Every player can expect to learn offensive and defensive skills from college coaches who played at the Division I or III level. There will be at least one coach for every position, from facing off to goaltending.

    Location
    Bailey Field and College Park. Bailey Field is the home of the Union's men's lacrosse team. It is a lighted facility with stadium seating and state of the art Field Turf.
    Time
    9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Cost is $250 ($50 deposit). Lunch and practice-reversable shirt provided.
    Equipment
    All players must provide their own lacrosse stick, mouth guard, shoulder pads, helmet, arm pads, gloves, appropriate footwear for Field Turf play. Water is encouraged but will be provided by Union as well.

    Girls Lacrosse Skills & Tactics Clinic 2010
    Location
    The academy will be held at Union College on Frank Bailey Field, a lighted Field Turf facility. Real grass might be used if needed.
    Eligibility
    High school juniors.
    Enrollment
    Limits to 50 people on a first come, first serve basis.
    Session and Cost
    Dates: April 24. Check-in from 12:30-1 p.m. at Bailey Field; campus tour from 1-2 p.m.; 2-3:30 p.m. Union College vs. William Smith; 3:30-4 p.m. college recruiting session with head women's lacrosse coach Jessica Critchlow.
    Cost: $155.

    Union College Girls Lacrosse Academy offers a four-day training program that will improve a player's technical skills and tactical knowledge. Players of novice ability and higher are eligible for the academy.
    Ages: 13-18
    Enrollment
    The academy will have a maximum of 50 participants to maintain an effective player-coach ratio of 10:1. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
    Session and Cost
    Dates: July 6-9 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $135 ($165 if you do not register prior to the opening day).
    Deposit: $50 - The balance of $85 is due on or before the first day of the academy.
    Equipment
    Every player must supply her own:
    - Eye protection (goggles)
    - Mouth guard
    - Stick
    - Goalies must supply own equipment

    Girls Softball
    Academy 2010
    Location
    The academies will be held at Union College's Alexander Field, located across from Alumni Gym.
    Girls Grades 3-8
    Dates
    June 21-23 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
    Cost
    Cost is $150 per attendee if pre-registered by June 14. Cost becomes $175 for registrations received after June 14, including walk-ins. Team discounts are available (Five or more players from the same team are $135 each). Family discount (two or more) is $125.
    A $75 deposit will be required with the application.
    This camp will focus on the fundamentals of all aspects of the sport. Hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing, pitching, base running will all be areas of focus.
    Girls Grades 9-12
    Dates
    July 12-14 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
    Cost
    Cost is $150 per attendee/$175 for walk-ins. Pre-registration ends July 5. Team discounts are available. A $75 deposit will be required with the application.
    This camp will feature more advanced skills necessary to compete at a high level in the sport of softball.
    Lunch will be provided for all attendees at the Union College dining facilities.

    Equipment

    Cleats and tennis shoes, water bottle, glove, bat and helmet (limited supply will be available, although may not be of proper size and weight). Each attendee will receive a free t-shirt.

    Central Park 'C' Diamond (The home of Union College Baseball)
    The field will be scaled from the appropriate group.

    Session I: August 9-13 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (Ages 8-10)
    Session II: August 16-20 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (Ages 11-13)
    Session III: August 23-27 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (Ages 5-7)

    $150 deposit to hold spot.
    Equipment
    Players must bring their own cleats and baseball fielding glove. They are welcome to bring their own bat and helmet.
    All attendees will receive an academy T-shirt and baseball.
    Specials
    Early Bird Special for all sessions: if your deposit is paid by March 1, the remaining $75 is waived.
    Family Discount: If one member pays in full, the second family member attends for $150.
    Combo Early Bird/Family: Deposit for one family member by March 1, the second family member pays $125 if the deposit is received by March 1 as well. If second registration is received after march 1, regular family discount is applied ($150).
