NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – The Union College men’s indoor track and field team placed fifth at the Smith College Tartan Invitational Saturday. The Dutchmen earned 55 points in the 13-team field, behind Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which won the meet with 194 points. Freshman Alex Coppola (Scotia, N.Y.) won the triple jump with a distance of 13.07 meters.

 

The 4x800 relay team of Peter Katlic (Penfield, N.Y.), Mike Stabinski (Schenectady, N.Y.), Dearon Panossian (Monroe, N.Y.) and Tripp Pietrak (Amherst, N.Y.) qualified for the ECAC Championships, finishing second in the event with a time of 8:15.42

 

Matt Wentworth (North Andover, Mass.) finished seventh in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.87 seconds, and finished the 200 meter dash in 23.97 seconds to place seventh. Patricio Guaiquil (Astoria, N.Y.) placed eighth, just behind Wentworth with a time of 23.98 seconds.

 

Guaiquil also finished third in the 400 meter run with a time of 52.82 seconds. Pietrak followed with a 53.56 second performance, placing seventh.

 

Katlic placed fourth in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:26.92, while Panossian finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.73.

 

George Fontaine (Wilbraham, Mass.) finished the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:41.95 to place seventh, while Stabinski finished seventh in the mile run with a time of 4:40.91.

 

 

The Dutchmen travel to St. Lawrence for the Liberty League Championships on Saturday, February 16^th.
