Union climbs national polls for second consecutive week

Men's hockey moved back into the top-10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union men's ice hockey team, in the midst of a four-game winning streak, moved up for the second consecutive week in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls released Monday. The Dutchmen were ranked No. 12 and earned 459 points in the USCHO.com poll and earned a No. 10 ranking with 172 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

This marks the 27th consecutive week the Dutchmen have been ranked in the USCHO.com poll, extending a school record. Union has been ranked for 12 consecutive weeks in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.

The Dutchmen snapped two lengthy streaks this weekend against Colgate and Cornell, winning for the first time at Colgate since Feb. 27, 1998 (0-11-1 in previous 12 games at Starr Rink), and beating Cornell for the first time since Feb. 15, 2008 (0-6-1 in previous seven games).

On Friday night, sophomore forward Wayne Simpson and freshman forward Josh Jooris each scored, and sophomore goaltender Keith Kinkaid stopped 24 shots to lead Union to a 2-1 win at Colgate. On Saturday night at Cornell, freshman forward Daniel Carr scored two power play goals to help the Dutchmen earn a 5-1 victory at Lynah Rink.

The Dutchmen will return to action against Dartmouth at Messa Rink on Jan. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
