Brendan Steiner was named the team's MVP
SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College men's soccer team capped off the 2009-10 academic and athletic year with its annual banquet. Senior defender Brendan Steiner was named the team's most valuable player, while senior defender Matt Bombardier and senior defender John Mara also received recognition.

Steiner, a captain in 2009, helped the Dutchmen post a 0.94 goals-against average and only allow two-or-more goals five times. Steiner, a 2009 Liberty League First Team selection, played in all 19 games, posting three goals, an assist and seven points. He was named to the NSCAA / Adidas All-East Second Team.

Bombardier was given the Bryan Baker Award for his sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field. He played in 13 games in 2009 and was a member of the defensive unit that kept opponents to under a goal a game.

Mara won the “Play Like A Senior” Award, which is given to the senior whose play exceeded expectations. Mara, another captain, was an NSCAA Academic All-Region Honorable Mention selection.
