SCHENECTADY, NY -- For the second straight season, Union College attack
Kristin Joyce has been named the 2010 Liberty League Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year. The junior was joined on the first team by midfielder
Melissa Hine, defender
Liz Moran and goalkeeper
Cat Ruggiero.
Second team honors were awarded to
Allison Cuozzo and
Kat Egizi, while
Tory Arnold was named to the Honorable Mention team.
Union is the #2 seed in this weekend's Liberty League Championship Tournament at Hamilton. The Dutchwomen will play St. Lawrence Friday at 5 p.m., and will face the winner of the the Hamilton-RPI game Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for the league championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

Player of the Year and First Team Attack
Joyce has 68 goals and eight assists for 76 points. She is a four time Liberty League Performer of the Week and a two time womenslacrosse.com weekly honoree. She leads the league in goals (by 11), and points and is the only player in the league with four game winning goals. Joyce also leads the league in shots (by 12). She has at least one goal in every game, and has six games with five or more goals. She scored seven goals each against nationally ranked teams Babson and Middlebury, and had six tallies vs. RPI, St. Lawrence and William Smith in league games. She ranks 19th in NCAA Div. III in goals per game. Her 187 career goals is second all time at Union, and she also ranks second in career points with 221.

First Team Midfield
Hine has 15 goals and 13 assists for 63 points. She ranks 10th in NCAA Division III in assists and earned a Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week honor. She dished out a Union individual season best nine assists in the win at William Smith and had seven assists at Rochester and six vs. nationally ranked Cortland. She had four ground balls vs. Clarkson and four draw controls against Rochester.

First Team Goalie
Ruggiero is 10-6 with a 6.57 goals against average and a .605 save percentage. She leads all of NCAA Division III in goals against average and save percentage and is a three time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week. Ruggiero has allowed four or less goals in seven games, posted a shutout vs. RPI, and allowed one goal in wins vs. Rochester and Clarkson. She has not allowed double digit goals in 11 games and made 22 saves in one goal OT loss at #1 Salisbury. Ruggiero is second in the league in saves per game.

First Team Defense
Moran has 32 ground balls, 14 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. She is second on the team in ground balls. She is a member of a defense that has the nation's best goals against average.

Second Team Midfield
Cuozzo has played in 11 games and has 20 ground balls, 10 draw controls has played in 11 games despite an injury in her senior season. She is a team co-captain who has led Union to the post season in each of her four years. She scored four goals against Skidmore, scored a goal in eight of her 11 games, and won four draw controls vs. RPI and three vs. Washington & Lee.

Second Team Defense
Egizi is a key starter who has had another excellent season after her fine rookie campaign, and she has 41 ground balls, 29 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers. She is a member of a defense that has the nation's best goals against average.
