SCHENECTADY, NY – Erin Pruess (Glen Falls, NY) went 3-for-4 with a home run to help lift Elmira College defeat Medaille College 7-3 on Saturday in game three of the ECAC Championships on the campus of Union College.
Elmira, which improves to 16-9 on the year, will face the loser of the fourth game between Union College and St. John Fisher College. Medaille falls to 23-22 on the year.
In addition to the home run in the sixth inning, Pruess drove two runs in and reached home twice in the game. Lauryn DePaul (Liverpool, NY) and Jackie Gibson (Jersey Shore, Pa.) both had two hits and a RBI. De Paul also scored a run. Although Casandra Fontinell (Shoreham, NY) started and pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and allowed only one run, Katie Hobson (Guilford, NY) pitched 4.2 innings in relief and was credited the win, improving her record to 6-1 this season.
Brink Brieanna (Buffalo, NY), Alyssa Zemla (Hamburg, NY), Laura Mauger (Clarence, NY) and Merissa Ciesielski (Cheektowaga, NY) each had two hits. Ciesielski and Holly McAllister (Rochester, NY) both recorded an RBI. Kristen Rohe (Buffalo, NY) pitched all seven innings and struck out five but suffered the loss and falls to 6-7.
Medaille scored first in the second inning. After reaching on a single to center field and reaching to third in the next three at bats, Mauger scored on a sacrifice fly to center field.
In the top of the third inning, Brittnee McGuire (Herkimer, NY) hit a ground out RBI and Gibson tied the game at two with an RBI single to left field.
The Lady Mavericks added two more runs in the third inning. Zemla reached on a fielder's choice and Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY) on a throwing error by the shortstop but the duo circled the bases to give the Lady Mavericks a 3-2 lead.
The Soaring Eagles regained the lead in the fourth inning. Carlye Bianco (Eatontown, NY) reached first base on a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a fielding error by the shortstop. She reached home on a center field single by DePaul.
