SCHENECTADY, NY -- Three members of the Union College softball team that helped lead the Dutchwomen to the 2010 Liberty League Championship have received weekly honors for their efforts. Sophomore catcher
Nina Cervini, senior pitcher
Tiffany Ippoliti and freshman infielder and designated player
Hannah Fandl each were honored for games May 8 and 9.
Cervini was named the Co-Performer of the Week with Jen Bach of RPI. Cervini hit a three-run, walk-off home run Sunday to give Union a 6-5 victory over RPI and the 2010 Liberty League Championship. She was named the Tournament Co-MVP. She had two hits and four RBIs in the final game, and had six RBIs for the tournament. Union is 29-8 and Cervini is batting .409 with four homers and 42 RBIs.
Ippoliti shared the Co-Pitcher of the Week award with RPI's Felicia Bua. Ippolit was named the Co-MVP of the championship tournament. She was 2-0 with a save while appearing in all three games. Ippoliti had a complete game win over Skidmore (with 9 K's and one run), and had three shutout innings in a save vs. RPI. She pitched the complete game win in the title game and allowed runs in only five of the 17 innings pitched. Ippoliti is 15-3 with a 2.09 ERA and has won seven straight.
Fandl was named the Co-Rookie of the Week wtih Julia Schwartz of Skidmore. Fandl batted .444 in the three games in Union's sweep in the tournament. She had two hits each against Skidmore and RPI. In the title game, Fandl drove in a run with a double in that contest.
