SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College junior goalkeeper
Cat Ruggiero has received her second Liberty League Defensive weekly award of the season, while junior attack
Kristin Joyce was honored with the offensive award for the third time this spring. Ruggiero shares this week's honor with Hamilton midfielder Meg Pengue, while Joyce is joined by Skidmore midfielder Lauren Madden. The honors recognize performances for games through April 11.
Joyce was also named the ECAC Division III Upstate Co-Offensive Player of the Week with Katie Henderson, an attack from Buffalo State.
Ruggiero has allowed just two goals in her last two games, and did not allow a goal by RPI in 44:13 of play in Saturday's victory. On the season she now
leads the country in NCAA Division III in save percentage (.633) and her goals against average of 6.,72 stands sixth nationally. Ruggiero has allowed four goals or less in four games this season.
Joyce scored 14 goals in three Liberty League wins for Union. She scored four in each victory over Skidmore and Vassar, and tallied six times in the win over RPI. Joyce had nine shots vs. Skidmore and 10 vs. Vassar. In the Vassar game, she scored her 150th career goal, becoming only the second Dutchwoman ever to accomplish that feat.
Union moved up to #12 in this week's IWLCA Division III poll, and plays at #11 Middlebury Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Including the game with the Panthers, the Dutchwomen will have faced a ranked opponent in each of the five non-league road games in 2010.
