Ruggiero, Joyce receive ECAC, Liberty League weekly awards

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Two members of the Union College women's lacrosse team received numerous weekly honors for their performances in the 11-5 win over St. John Fisher on March 13.

Junior goalkeeper Cat Ruggiero was named the ECAC Division III Upstate Defensive Player of the Week and also the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week.

Junior attack Kristin Joyce was named the ECAC Division III Upstate Co-Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week. She shared both of these honors with Skidmore's indsay Stavola.

Ruggiero made 16 saves, including nine in the first half, as the #14 Dutchwomen downed previously ranked St. John Fisher, 11-5 in the home opener.

Joyce scored five goals and added an assist in leading #14 Union to an 11-5 home opening win over previously ranked St. John Fisher. She had six shots, a draw control, and was 2 for 2 in free position attempts. Joyce moved into sixth all-time in Union career points with 163, four behind Courtney Lynch '89. Her 135 career goals now places her tied for fifth place with Nina Mandel '03.

Union is now ranked #15 in this week's IWLCA Division III Poll. The Dutchwomen are idle until Tuesday, March 23 when they play at #17 Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia.
