Dutchwomen lose at Skidmore, 63-47

Megan Gaugler scored 14 points and Dana Leonard added 10 to lead Skidmore to a 63-47 Liberty League women's basketball win over Union at the Sports & Recreation Center Tuesday night. The Thoroughbreds improved to 15-3 overall and remain on top of the league with a 7-1 record, while the Dutchwomen fell to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Sharlyn Harper added nine points and nine rebounds for Skidmore, which had a 43-36 rebounding advantage on the night. Logan Frederick and Kelly Bischoff each had six rebounds.

Union was led by Megan Clark, who was the lone Dutchwoman in double figures with 12 points. Rachel Beaulac led Union with six boards and Lauren McCormick and Shayla Madden each scored eight points for the Dutchwomen. Madden also added five rebounds.

Skidmore had a 27-16 lead at the intermission, and won despite shooitng 34% for the game. Union shot 33% on the night.

In the second half, Union trailed by 16 after a layup by Skidmore's Cyrida Felton 1:31 into the half. But the Dutchwomen got as close as seven with a 22-13 run in a span of 6:32. Lindsay Hage and Madden each hit three pointers during the run. But consecutive three pointers by Skidmore's Gaugler opened it up to a 13 point home lead and Union got no closer then nine with 6:07 left.

Union will complete a streak of five straight Liberty League road games this weekend. The Dutchwomen will play at William Smith Friday night at 6 p.m. and at Hamilton Saturday at 2 p.m.
