Banquet honors Dutchmen for memorable 2009 football season

SCHENECTADY, NY --
The 2009 Union football team was honored on January 30 at the 12th Annual John Speer Union College Football Banquet held at Mallozzi's Banquet House in Schenectady. The event honored the 21 seniors and their teammates, and many awards were presented to the Dutchmen during the evening. A highlight video presentation concluded the evening, 

Union finished the 2009 season with an 8-3 record and was Co-Champion of the Liberty League with Susquehanna. It was Union's 29th consecutive non-losing season, and the ninth eight victory season in Head Coach John Audino's 18 seasons at Union. The Dutchmen won the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl at home over Hartwick, and also returned The Dutchman Shoes Trophy to the Union campus with the victory at home over RPI.

Senior linebacker John Peters was named the East Regional Finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy. Two players received All-American honors (Peters and offensive lineman Colin Berry), three players competed in the Senior All Star Game (Peters, Berry and offensive lineman Tim Furcillo), five players were selected to the ECAC All Star Team, and four were named to the D3Football.com All Region Team. A total of 18 players were named to the Liberty League All Star Team, and the Dutchmen had six Offensive Performer weekly awards (the most in the Liberty League), six Defensive honors (tied for the most), two Special Team selections and a Rookie of the Week from the league.

The Dutchmen seniors won a total of 25 games in their four seasons. During that time, this squad won 74% of their Liberty League games. The senior class won two Liberty League Championships and an ECAC Championship. This unit competed in three post-season tournaments, including an NCAA game, and two ECAC games.
