John Mara Named NSCAA Academic All-Region Honorable Mention

SCHENECTADY, NY – Union College men’s soccer senior
John Mara has been selected NSCAA Academic All-EAST Honorable Mention for his efforts on the pitch and in the class room.
“I’m very happy that John has been recognized,” said head coach Jeff Guinn “He was the glue that held our team together last fall. He has been a valuable asset for us and is one of the hardest working players I have coached here – if not the hardest working player. His work ethic obviously extends to the classroom as well.”
Mara, who served as a captain, helped the Dutchmen post a 0.94 goals-against average and only allow two-or-more goals five times. He played in all 19 games, registered a goal and helped Union to a 11-6-2 record and an appearance in the Liberty League championship game.
In the classroom, Mara is a economics major with a 3.4 GPA. He has been named to the conference’s all-academic team three times.
