Joyce, Ruggiero each receive third league weekly honors

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Two members of the Union women's lacrosse team have received weekly recognition from the Liberty League. Kristin Joyce was named the league's Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, joining Liz Rave of Hamilton. Ruggiero joined Hamilton's Liz Benjamin as the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week. Both Joyce and Ruggiero were honored for the third time.

Joyce was named to the Liberty League Championship All-Tournament Team, as she led Union with eight goals and 10 points in the two games. She scored five with two assists with six shots (all on goal) in the win over Rochester. Joyce scored all three of Union's goals in the OT loss to Hamilton in the title game. She now has 61 goals and 81 points for the season.

Ruggiero, who entered the tourney ranked second in the nation in goals against average, had a 5.23 GAA for the weekend. She stopped six in the win over Rochester and nine in the victory over Hamilton, including three free position saves against the Continentals.

Union (14-3) hosts Rowan (8-8) in a first round game in the NCAA Division III Playoffs Wednesday at Frank Bailey Field. Game time is 4 p.m., and tickets will go on sale at 3 p.m. at the Bailey Field Box Office. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students w/ID and children two and under are free.
