Getting to Know U is a new feature that highlights the great student-athletes at Union College. It will appear on the website every Tuesday and Thursday. Men's ice hockey junior Stephane Boileau is the fourth subject on this question and answer piece.
Name: Stéphane Boileau
Sport: Men's Ice Hockey
Year: Junior
Hometown: Blainville, Quebec
UnionAthletics.com: You are from Quebec; you speak French better than English, but you still earn straight A's. How do you do it?
Stéphane Boileau: I simply work harder. During my freshman year, I was learning a new language and learning the material at the same time. Therefore, I simply put more effort in order to stay at a high academic level.
UnionAthletics.com: What are your career aspirations?
Stéphane Boileau: After Union, I want to go to med-school in Quebec and become an orthopedist
UnionAthletics.com: What's your favorite relaxation spot on campus?
Stéphane Boileau: Probably my room. I live off-campus and I have a room for myself (instead of having a roommate). Before an important exam, I also like to go to the basement of the library so I do have any distraction.
UnionAthletics.com: What's your take on ECAC Hockey and what makes it a special conference?
Stéphane Boileau: ECACH is by far the best academic league and the players are also probably smarter. They know the game well and it is always hard to win and I think it is why it makes this league special. The scores are always close.
UnionAthletics.com: Why do you wear your number?
Stéphane Boileau: There is no special reason why I wear #25. My favorite number is 27 and was not available when I was a freshman. However, I kept it this year even if [Brendan] Milnamow (he had #27) graduated. I had two good seasons so I did not have any reason to change it.
UnionAthletics.com: What's your favorite childhood sports memory?
Stéphane Boileau: Probably when my sister won the 1997 World Cup in Mexico as a 10m diver.
