SCHENECTADY, NY – With the decade coming to a close, the Union College men's soccer team achieved something that has been done in the last 10 years: put three members on the NSCAA / adidas All-East Team. Senior defender
Brendan Steiner and freshman forward
Sebastiaan Jansen earned second team accolades, while senior midfielder
Ryan Banagan was named to the third team.
Steiner, who captained the team along with Banagan, helped the Dutchmen post a 0.94 goals-against average and only allow two-or-more goals five times. Steiner, a 2009 Liberty League First Team selection, played in all 19 games, posting three goals, an assist and seven points.
Jansen, the 2009 ECAC and Liberty League Rookie of the Year, was also named to the ECAC Second Team and the Liberty League First Team. He led the Dutchmen with six goals, six assists and 18 points. He produced at least one point in eight games and registered a career-high four points twice.
Banagan was also a ECAC Second Team and a Liberty League First Team selection after posting six goals, four assists and 16 points. On Sept. 16, he was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week.
