Lokitis leads Dutchmen to 65-54 win over Medgar Evers

Senior guard Joey Lokitis posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Union men's basketball team to a 65-54 win over Medgar Evers at the Western Connecticut Classic Friday night at Feldman Arena. The Dutchmen improved to 1-1 and will face the host Colonials Saturday in the tournament championship game at 3 p.m.

Lokitis hit seven of his 11 shots from the floor and also had five assists and two steals in the victory. Rusmir Dzanko added 11 points with eight rebounds and Drew Goldstein scored nine points for Union, which shot 59% for the night. Freshman Keven Donohue had seven points in the triumph.

Jovan Deare led the Colonials (2-2) with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and Shawn Bassarath scored 12 with three steals. Marquis Jones and Ronald Holloway each had 10 rebounds for the Colonials, who forced 34 turnovers but shot 34% for the night.

Union had a 27-25 halftime lead and the Dutchmen defenisve effort held the Colonials to 27% shooting in the first half (8 for 30). Union had a 35-26 rebounding advantage for the game.
