Tardiff and Sturges Earn NYSCTC All-State Team, Union Placed Eighth

Freshman Gabe Sturges was named the New York State Male Rookie of the Year.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Sarah Tardiff and freshman Gabe Sturges earned All-State at the NYSCTC Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Both Union College teams placed eighth at the meet.

It is the first time in nearly seven years that a runner from Union College was selected for All-State. Sturges was also selected as New York State Male Rookie of the Year at the race.

Both Tardiff and Sturges had the fastest times in their career at the meet. Tardiff marked a time of 19:28.63 in the 5K distance, placing her 16th overall. Sturges turned in 26:51.15 in the 8K distance, placing him 11th overall on the men's side.

Union College will head to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Oct. 31 for the Saratoga Invitational. The race is set to start at 11 a.m.
