SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College men's soccer team not only hosts two important Liberty League games this weekend, but also hosts a famous group of soccer Dutchmen from 23 years ago who made their mark on the program's history.

The 2009 team stands 9-3-2 overall, and the 3-1 league mark has the Dutchmen tied atop the Liberty League standings entering the weekend. Union hosts Hamlton Saturday at 1 p.m. and Hobart Sunday at 1 p.m. with both games at College Park.

Saturday's halftime will feature a "welcome home" for the 1986 Union Men's Soccer Team. Members of the team in attendance, along with Head Coach Bob Magee, will be introduced onto the field at halftime of Saturday's game. Later that day, the Dutchmen of '86 will join the 1930 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team, as well as seven individuals, for induction into the Union College Athletics Hall of Fame. Festivities take place at 4:30 p.m. at The Waters Edge Lighthouse Restaurant in Scotia.

The 1986 Dutchmen finished a superb season with a record of 12-3-2 for Coach Magee. His senior class wrapped up their careers with a record of 49-10-5. The 1986 team was ranked 12th nationally and was the fourth straight team to compete in the NCAA Championships. Magee was named the New York State Coach of the Year in the 1986 season. Three members of the team were selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America New York State All Star Team. The 12 victories tied the all-time Union record for wins in a single season set by the 1978 team. The 1986 team won two NCAA playoff games, the first men' s soccer team in Union history to win two NCAA post season games.

Union's 2009 squad features leading scorer Sebastiaan Jansen, who has five goals and six assists for 16 points, while Ryan Banagan, a two time Liberty League Performer of the Week, has five goals and 14 points. Goalkeeper Adam Margulies has a 7-2 record with a 0.62 goals against mark. Union opened the season with three straight victories and during a five game winning streak in the middle of the season, Union featured a win over then sixth-ranked RPI on the road.

The Dutchmen lead the league in goals, goals per game, shots and shots per game. After the weekend, Union will close out the regular season with an October 31 home game against Skidmore at 1 p.m.
