SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College sophomore infielder Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/NFA) and sophomore shortstop Megan Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) have been named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Softball All-Northeast Region Team. Kaknis was selected as the first baseman while Rogers was an at-large selection.
Kaknis had a .512 batting average with 63 hits, the second most in a season for Union, and 56 RBIs. She had 10 doubles, seven triples and a record 15 home runs. Kaknis was named the Liberty League Player of the Year and became the first player in Union history to hit 10 or more homers in a season.. She is one of only four to hit 10+ homers in a career, and first to do it in less then four seasons. Kaknis had a hit in 33 of 37 games and was a two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week. During the month of April, she hit .564 with 31 hits, 31 RBIs and 10 HRs in 16 games. Kaknis is ranked in the top five in NCAA batting, home runs and RBIs. She had also been named to the LIberty League First Team in 2006, as the designated player.
Rogers finished the season with a .461 average with 59 hits, 11 doubles and eight triples along with 37 RBIs. A Liberty League First Team selection, she hit safely in 33 of the 37 games and had a hit in 19 of the final 20 games of the year. Rogers, who had 12 multi-RBI games, is one of only six players in Union history to record 50+ hits in a season, and one of only two to do it twice (she had 54 last year). Rogers was also a Liberty League First Team honoree at shortstop in her freshman season.
Union won the ECAC Division III Upstate Championship and finished with a record of 28-9.
