Kaknis named Liberty League Softball Player of the Year; Brown heads league Staff of the Year

Megan Kaknis is a two-time Liberty League Player of the Year.

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College junior third baseman Michelle Kaknis (New Windsor, NY) has been named the 2008 Liberty League Softball Player of the Year, winning player honors for the second straight season. Union Head Coach Pete Brown and Assistant Coach Brian Speck received the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year Award. Kaknis was joined on the first team by Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY), Bridget Graham (Orchard Park, NY), and Ginny Sack (Burnt Hills, NY). The Second team featured Lindsay Larabee (Westfield, MA), Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer, NY) and Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA). The Honorable Mention team features Megan Bordino (New Paltz, NY), Ashley Kovack (Ridgefield, CT) and Kelly Owings (Oswego, NY).  Kaknis was also named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Second Team at first base, while Rogers received Second Team At-Large regional honors.



Carroll named Academic All-District

SCHENECTADY, NY – Union College baseball player Scott Carroll (Scituate, Mass.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, May 8. The honor marks the second for the senior, who was named to the All-District Second Team in 2007.

Men's soccer alumni game set for May 30th

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Head men's soccer coach Jeff Guinn has announced that the Dutchmen will hold their alumni game on Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. Interested alumni who wish to participate in the game, which will take place at College Park Field, should contact Coach Guinn via email at guinnj@union.edu.

Nazareth upsets Dutchmen, 15-5, in ECAC Upstate semifinals

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Nazareth senior Aaron Civalier scored four goals and added an assist as the fourth-seeded Golden Flyers upset top-seeded Union College, 15-5, in the ECAC Division III Upstate Men’s Lacrosse Championships semifinal game at Frank Bailey Field Thursday afternoon. Nazareth (9-6) led 8-2 at halftime and was backed by 17 saves from sophomore goaltender Todd Dermody. Union, which was led by a pair of scores from Jon Miller (Yarmouth, Maine) concludes its historic season with a 12-5 record, the most wins in program history.
